How To Care For Skin – Do You Make These Mistakes?
Caring for your skin should be one of your top priorities – In an ideal world. Most of us simply don’t have time to devote to our skin care, or we don’t think about the actual job it does deeply enough to make us do it.
It was this reasoning that prompted me to write this basic understanding for skin care. Read along and let me know about any of the skin care techniques that you use.
How To Care For Skin
Our skin is often the most overlooked part of our body. People simply don’t understand that the skin is the biggest organ in our body and needs looking after and caring for just like the others. Our skin is the one thing that protects us from all the elements, it’s waterproof, heals itself and keeps our body safe, yet it’s the least cared for. Worse still, it’s the first line of defence against the sun and the suns dangerous rays.
The ultraviolet rays that the sun produces cause a whole host of problems for the skin, the most notable one being skin cancer. The sun and it’s rays are most dangerous through the day between the hours of 10am right through to 4pm, yet this is the time that most of us are outside at some point. I have seen people recommending that you just simply stay inside to give your skin the best possible care. For me, this just isn’t practical and I’m sure it’s not for you either. Try thinking about how to care for your skin rather than how to become obsessed about it.
Basic Steps That Show You How To Care For Skin
Anyone can be affected by the sun, the sun really doesn’t mind if you are old, young, pretty, overweight etc. There are one group of people who will suffer more though – children. They play outside and are often not bothered by the heat of the sun and can become burnt by it much faster as their skin has not been exposed as often. Keeping children covered up with cotton clothes is a great way to help them and their skin. Sunblock is also another must have with children.
If you know that you are going to be spending a long time outside in the sun, one great way to care for your skin is to take an umbrella which will help shield your skin from the harmful rays. Making sure that you have also applied suncream with help with the care of your skin too.
Exfoliating is fast becoming a very popular beauty technique. I personally think it’s great, but your skin needs to be treated very carefully and excessive exfoliating or too being to aggressive with your skin will cause you more problems. Be especially careful about going out in the sun if you have just exfoliated your body – you wont have any protection from it.
Try not to touch your skin too much with your hands. They are one of the dirtiest places on your body and harbour all kinds of germs, try not to touch your face too often as this will just give your skin more bacteria to get more spots going with.
When you are next out buying makeup, try not to think about getting the heaviest foundation available to cover your spots up, it will be very oily and do more harm than good. Try buying an oil free foundation next time. Caring for skin comes in many different forms.
Please share your own tips and advice on how to care for your skin, the more we get here, the bigger help it will be for other people searching for the same answers. I’ll do more in depth articles on some of these ways to care for skin over the coming weeks.
The Cause Of Spots And Acne
This one question, “The Cause Of Spots And Acne” really used to drive me mad. I just couldn’t work out why some people got spots and others never even had a pimple! I saw six different dietitians and doctors in my hunt for the cure and each one of them told me that same thing ……
It’s just unlucky that your body is built the way it is.
They all told me that the number one cause of acne and spots is your hormones, something that you just cannot control. It seems that when your body starts to produce the sex hormone known as androgen, your body just gets a little carried away and gets covered in spots. You would probably already noticed that the biggest sufferers of spots and acne are teenagers (don’t worry, I was way past teens too) and they get it when their body starts to change and evolve into adulthood.
It seems that when the body starts to get enough of this ‘androgen’ into it’s system, it also starts producing sebum, the natural oil in the skin and this combined with the dead skin cells found naturally on the skin, bacteria that lives on all of us too, you have the exact ingredients or the main causes of spots and acne.
Stress is also a major factor in causing spots and acne, so the more stressed out we get about it, the worst our skin is likely to get. When our bodies are stressed, they start to produce more hormones or increase the hormones that we have already, one of the new hormones that it produces in times of stress is cortisol, this little bugger is known to aggravate acne and spots!
Don’t Get Stressed – Help Is Here
You might well have heard some people tell you that make-up is a big cause of spots and acne. It doesn’t cause spots but it wont help them either. Your skin conditions are ripe all by themselves to give you spots, make-up (especially the heavy or oily ones) will just help block your pores even more.
The list goes on and on, but I have found a great list of what causes acne and you can read more about the causes on this spots and acne site. It has a lot of good information on dealing with spots and acne and is well worth reading.
